About this deal

As such, you’d typically use this light modifier when illuminating people or objects. Additionally, the Light Dome II has a gel holder, allowing you to add a creative flair to the soft lights. If you need to get in close, and find the light has become a touch too hard or that there are visible lines from the diffusion fabric being folded, the Light Dome also ships with an internal diffuser that will significantly soften the light again. The 1200d Pro fixture is aimed at the pro/rental market, requiring a better build quality. The LS 1200d Pro has a weather-resistant construction so that it can withstand inclement weather. There are no controls on the light its self. All controls are located on the controller/ballast. The early team joined Xie and Sim with color scientists from Fujifilm and cinematographers from Los Angeles. Together, they engaged in product development of high-fidelity LEDs instead of low color renditioning diodes which were common at the time. [1]

While the original C120D came in at 6000K, the C120D II has a perfect 5500K daylight, allowing it to perfectly blend with other daylight-balanced lights in the Aputure ecosystem. As you can see in the image above, the 1200d Pro is boxier than the 600d Pro. I would imagine this helps make the light easier to work in tighter locations and cooling. Fan Speeds The phosphor is the bit that gives the LED light its color temperature (The D or the T) The version I have is called the 120D,the D is for Daylight. This means it’s closely daylight balanced, as opposed to the other model, the 120T which is more closely tungsten balanced. If you’re super interested in how they’re made, search on YouTube, it’s pretty interesting. Anyways… The 120d MKII boasts an incredible luminance of 135,000 lux at 0.5 meters away with the Aputure Fresnel. With an approximate brightness equivalent to a 1,000-watt tungsten light, the 120d MK2 is nearly 25% brighter than the 1st generation C120D, making it competitive with some of the highest-grade studio lights on the market. In the shots below, the actor is positioned in a daylight interior, with strong natural light coming in from the window. As the direction is to have a high-key shot, we need to bring some fill light into the scene to save exposing for the light from the window. And, to equally avoid the highlights from the windows clipping if we were to expose for the interior ambiance.

While all of these incredible upgrades are worthy of note, the C120D II still has many of the same features as the 1st Generation C120D, including the universal Bowens mount, ultra-silent temperature control system, wireless remote, and the same crowd-favorite carrying bag. A re-designed yoke construction accommodates an expanded range of motion with over 330 degrees, letting you angle and point your light anywhere needed. An improved user-friendly handgrip design also allows for highly intuitive controls. Featherweight Design You've learned about all the pros and cons of Aputure 120d II in this article. What's the next step? The 120d has a large fan on the underside of the unit as the high draw COB LED chip tends to produce quite a lot of heat. Along with the fan the fixture uses an intelligent temperature control system. The fans rotation will be varied based on its measurement of the corresponding ambient temperature. The fans go to maximum rotation speed when you press the Auto/Force button. Despite the size of the fan, it is barely audible and I doubt you would be able to hear it even in the quitest of environments.

A 25% output increase is nothing to scoff at. I first turned on the 120D MK II and lit most of the downstairs of my home with the bundled reflector mount. Before the neighbors started asking about alien invasions I turned it off and decided to try it in a few situations in real filming environments for this review. It still doesn’t quite have the output for most exterior daytime applications (depending on cloud cover and time of day), but for that, I suggest you use a 300D MK II anyway. It has a Junior Pin to mount to a combo stand. At 19.73 lbs/ 8.94 kg it’s a beast. No light-duty stands for this one.
