It is not technically a portable telescope, but the Celestron 70AZ is light enough that you should have no trouble transporting it when necessary. Remove the plastic connection strip and try again to turn on your finderscope. Make sure to rotate the “ON” knob at least 30° and give the red dot 1 second to appear.

You can see many large celestial objects within our solar system with the Celestron PowerSeeker 70az, but you won’t be able to view Neptune or Pluto.

Although it’s understandable to be interested in their differences, both telescopes also come with a few similarities that you won’t have to miss out on.

Each telescope comes with two different eyepieces, and although they come with a slight variation in one eyepiece, they both have a 20mm eyepiece as well.

The Good

What you’re able to see with each telescope doesn’t vary too much and isn’t the biggest differentiating factor. You’ll also benefit from a decent viewing quality with this telescope, especially when you consider it’s geared toward entry-level users. The diagonal is intended for terrestrial viewing, and it does its job. It lowers the image quality quite a bit for astronomy. Overall, it provides more than enough for entry-level stargazers, as the solar system has plenty of amazing objects to observe. What Can You See With The Celestron PowerSeeker 70az? Both telescopes have an aperture of 70mm, and it’s important to note that a higher aperture will provide a better resolution.

Although it is quite durable, it includes a standard two-year warranty to protect it against defects or problems.

Price Range

Setting up the telescope is a breeze, so you can begin observing in no time. Even on your first time out, you can assemble the telescope and its accessories in just a few minutes. The adjustable tripod legs allow you to customize the telescope’s height or place it on raised surfaces like a picnic table. The Celestron PowerSeeker 70AZ’s small aperture limits its ability to show you much besides the Moon, planets, double stars, and a handful of the brightest deep-sky objects. The Moon will show a wealth of details, and you can view the phases of Venus and the ice caps of Mars. Jupiter’s cloud belts and the Great Red Spot (as well as the giant planet’s moons) should be visible along with Saturn’s moons, rings, and maybe a hint of its cloud belts or the Cassini Division in its rings. Great for beginners or anyone looking to shop on a budget, the telescopes have plenty to offer, considering the cost. We also measure the Power with our systems which is essentially the error from the reference sphere to the test optic. The reference sphere we use on our system is a very high quality sphere so the closer to zero the Power, the less error between the 2 elements thus ensuring a higher quality optical surface. You’ll be able to view all of the planets in our solar system, along with many of their distinct features.

With the AstroMaster 70az, you get a focal length of 900mm, and the PowerSeeker 70az offers a focal length of 700mm.The first time you use your finder, you need to align it. This one-time setup procedure should be done during the day. Take the telescope outside and find an easily recognizable object, such as a streetlight, car license plate, or tall tree. The object should be as far away as possible, but at least a quarter mile away. Move the telescope left and right or up and down so that it is roughly pointing at the object. Look through the telescope using your low power eyepiece and move the telescope until the object you chose lies in the center of the view. Once the object is centered in your eyepiece, turn on the red dot. With your head positioned about a foot behind the finder, look through the round lens of the finder and locate the red dot. Without moving the telescope, use the two adjustment knobs located on the side and underneath the finder. One controls the left-right motion of the dot. The other controls the up-down motion of the dot. Adjust both of these until the red dot appears over the same object you are observing in the eyepiece. So now let’s switch to astronomy; you buy them a great book on astronomy and a cool map showing where some amazing objects are, then you give them a telescope that even when used by a professional could not identify a car across a football field much less the planet Jupiter in the night sky.
