The station was the scene of two fatal rail crashes in 1915 and 1944. A traction maintenance depot for electric multiple units is situated in Ilford, which maintains many Greater Anglia and London Overground trains. South Park is one of the largest open spaces in the London Borough of Redbridge and has been awarded Green Flag status.
