Written and directed by Wong Jing, 1986’s Magic Crystal stars Andy Lau as Andy and Wong Jing himself as Pancho, two freelance special agents that wind up being hired by the Hong. This year’s meme given cinematic life proves to be both better and worse than any sort of expectations one may have coming to a film named ‘Cocaine Bear’. Something which many, myself included, thought should never be a word associated with a film entitled Cocaine Bear. When Dee Dee’s mom , Sari (Kari Russell), realizes her daughter has skipped class, she heads out to look for her. who has just picked up a new trophy dog, is hoping to beat Syd at his own game with help from his new partner, Reba (Ayoola Smart).

Namechecking creature feature classics such as Tremors and Lake Placid were for once not idle boasts.Yet the actual success of the film really starts and ends with its influences and its subsequent choice of what kind of film it wanted to be.

The HDR10 grade doesn’t have a huge amount of highlights to be bothered with – the odd bright light of the plane cockpit in the opening few mins or the glistening reflections from the night-time waterfall at the film’s conclusion still have a real energy to them – instead seemingly focussed on eking out every last little bit of nuance in the colours, and especially in those darker scenes.

But the cast really do give it their all and inject massive amounts of fun and charm into their performances. Cocaine Bear is destructive fun about the true story of a giant black bear who did mass amounts of cocaine. But it was a sufficiently goofy fun time to have us more fondly remembering the classic films it reminds us of than bemoaning the waste of a title that the Sam Jackson and Asylum peers certainly had us doing.
